Preschool teacher Sandrine was born in northern France. With an education and background in applied arts and interior architecture, including teaching CAD (computer aided design) software skills for a year at a top architecture school in France, she began her career in elementary schools as an educational assistant in grades 1st through 5th at the school Victor Hugo in Lambersart. Sandrine led workshops in animated computer design, Visual Arts, and theatre for four years, while studying Liberal Arts, Art History and Archeology at the University Charles de Gaulle of Lille, finishing her studies in 2002. She then completed her classroom teacher training and certification at l’Institut Universitaire de Formation des Maitres (IUFM) where she became an ‘art referent’. Next, Sandrine taught for 4 years in a class of MS-GS (Pre-K and K) in Condé sur l’Escaut, choosing that specific area of France so she could give back to an underserved population similar to one from which she came. Following the principals of Freinet, Sandrine develops inter-disciplinary projects while emphasizing visual arts and ecology. Last year Sandrine and her students participated in a project to increase the children’s awareness of healthy and ecologically grown food. Together they created an organic garden with heirloom varieties of vegetables, enriched by ‘lombricompostage’ (‘vermicompost’ worm compost) and completely managed by the children.
